Ward's 10 Best Engines of 2013 Announced: 2013 Accord line snags 2 of the 10 spots!

2013-honda-accord-sport-sedan-front-three-quarters
Ward's 10 Best Engines, the premiere industry honors for car and light truck engines, have been announced for 2013. For the first time in seven years, the list is comprised entirely of gasoline-powered engines, with no hybrid, all-electric or diesel powertrains to be found.

While this result might seem to go against the grain of the industry's push into alternative fuels and propulsion systems, WardsAuto editors who judged the awards see the list as proof there is significant innovation still happening in the development of traditional gasoline engines, making them more fuel-efficient and refined than ever.

"We're always excited to see the advancements being made in hybrids and all-electric vehicles," says Drew Winter, editor-in-chief of WardsAuto World magazine. "But there are still significant barriers for the average consumer to look past when considering these vehicles. The cost for most of them remains high, and the driving ranges of the battery electric vehicles will have to be extended to meet the needs of most people."

Instead, the WardsAuto judges found significant innovations in fuel efficiency and overall refinement in the traditional gasoline engines that power the majority of vehicles that will be on the road for the foreseeable future.

Now in its 19th year, the Ward's 10 Best Engines competition recognizes the latest powertrain technologies that are affordable to most consumers, boost horsepower and torque, are highly efficient, sound appealing and pair up well with their respective vehicles. This year's winners (and the vehicles tested) are:

3.0L TFSI Supercharged DOHC V-6 (Audi S5)
2.0L N20 Turbocharged DOHC I-4 (BMW 328i)
3.0L N55 Turbocharged DOHC I-6 (BMW 135is coupe)
3.6L Pentastar DOHC V-6 (Ram 1500)
2.0L EcoBoost DOHC I-4 (Ford Focus ST/Taurus)
5.8L Supercharged DOHC V-8 (Ford Shelby GT500)
2.0L Turbocharged DOHC I-4 (Cadillac ATS)
2.4L DOHC I-4 (Honda Accord Sport)
3.5L SOHC V-6 (Honda Accord)
2.0L FA DOHC H-4 Boxer (Subaru BRZ)

WardsAuto editors chose the winners after spending October through early December driving 40 vehicles in their routine daily commutes around metro Detroit. Editors scored each engine based on power, technology, observed fuel economy and noise, vibration and harshness characteristics. There is no instrumented testing. To be eligible, each engine must be available in a regular-production U.S.-specification model on sale no later than first-quarter 2013, in a vehicle with a base price below $55,000. Winners from the 2012 competition were automatically eligible and evaluated against the new engines for 2013.

"The world's automakers are showing no signs in slowing down when it comes to making gasoline engines the best choice for today's and tomorrow's drivers," Winter says. With new technologies such as "stop-start" – which shuts down the engine when a vehicle comes to a stop or idles -- automotive engineers are proving they have no shortage of tricks up their sleeves for reducing fuel consumption and cost of ownership."

There are quite a few ways to prepare your car for safer driving in the winter. Today’s Monday Maintenance Tip is: Check your tire pressure

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Tire-pressure-1
Here are two good reasons to get down there with the gauge and unscrew the valve caps as the weather cools:

1) Tires lose a pound of pressure for every drop of 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

2) An underinflated tire won't "bite" through snow down to the pavement as well as one at pressure. It's similar to hydroplaning on water -- and just as dangerous. You may have heard the guidance to let air out of your tires for sand or snow to get more contact surface area. That only applies only if the surface is bottomlessly soft, like a beach or foot-deep, unplowed snow -- not the mix of cleared road, ice and packed snow most of us encounter in daily driving.

Don't forget to put the valve caps back on (or, buy new ones) when you're done. Letting in moisture, which then freezes, could let the valve core leak out air.

The Honda Fit is getting 3 new variants, including sedan!

2012-honda-fit-sport-628
The Honda Fit might be a small car, but it is going to play a big role in Honda's goal of increasing sales by 18 percent by the end of the 2017 fiscal year. In this time, production of the subcompact will commence in Mexico, and sales of the car are expected to swell to 200,000 units annually thanks to an expanded model lineup.

Joining the current hatchback model, Honda is planning to use the Fit as the basis for a new sedan and crossover, although it isn't clear whether or not the cars will wear the Fit nameplate. According to Automotive News, various sources have confirmed that the new bodystyles will be made at the new Mexican plant, but Honda has not yet said if all three models will be on sale in the US. Adding a sedan would allow the Fit to better compete against rival cars like the Ford Fiesta, Nissan Versa, Chevrolet Sonic and Hyundai Accent, while the new crossover would give a unique product in the ever-growing B-segment.

The redesigned Honda Fit goes on sale next year with the new plant in Mexico going on line in 2014. The report says that the "vast majority" of cars built at this plant will be exported to the US.

There are some simple steps your can take to ensure longer battery life. That is why today's Monday Maintenance Tip is: Be kind to your battery.

Jumping_battery

If you inadvertently leave your lights on and drain your battery, take the following precautions to prevent damage to the battery and the starter when jump-starting your car:

  • Don’t risk causing the battery to explode. With both cars off, connect a positive cable end to the positive battery terminal of the dead battery.
  • Connect the other positive cable end to the positive terminal of the source battery.
  • Connect a negative cable end to the negative terminal of the source battery.
  • Attach the remaining negative cable to unpainted metal on the car engine (as far from the dead battery as possible).
  • Wait a few minutes and try to start the disabled car. If it doesn’t start, start the source car and then try starting the dead one again.
  • When the car starts, be careful to disconnect the cables in the reverse order.
  • If the car still doesn’t start, don’t keep trying to charge it or you are liable to damage the starter. Bring the battery to an automotive shop to see if it can be recharged.
  • Even if you’re successful, ensure a full recharge by hooking up the battery to a charger overnight or by driving the car for 5 or 10 miles (8 to 16 km).

We would like to give a very sincere "thank you" to the authors of these three outstanding reviews!

The Honda Fit has been honored with "10Best Cars" status in each of the seven years that it has been on sale in the United States.

"The Accord and Fit both embody Honda's core values of ingenious packaging, great visibility, fun driving dynamics and fuel efficiency," said Michael Accavitti, vice president of marketing operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The editors of Car and Driver continue to recognize these attributes and our vehicles as among the  industry's best, a sentiment clearly echoed by Honda's customers."

The Fit has been sold in the U.S. since the 2007 model year and is manufactured in Sayama, Japan. The Accord has been sold in the U.S. since the 1976 model year and this year marks 30 years of Accord manufacturing in America.

Honda announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show today that the 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid will be available for retail sale and lease beginning January 15 in California and New York

Gal01
The 2014 Accord Plug-In has earned the highest EPA MPGe rating in its class (115 MPGe), surpassing plug-in-class competitors including the Ford C-Max Energi (100 MPGe), Chevy Volt (98 MPGe), and Prius Plug-in (95 MPGe). The 2014 Accord Plug-In has been rated by the EPA with a maximum all-electric EV mode range of 13 miles, and a fuel-economy rating of 47/46/46 mpg (city/hwy/combined). The Accord Plug-In is the first production car in America to meet the more stringent new LEV3/SULEV20 emissions standard, and it will also qualify for single-occupant carpool-lane access in California.

The two-motor Accord Hybrid will launch nationwide next summer, with anticipated class-leading fuel economy ratings of 49/45/47 mpg (city/hwy/combined). Unlike the unique styling of the Accord Plug-In, the Accord Hybrid will share styling much closer the conventional Accord Sedan. More details on the Accord Hybrid will be released closer to launch.

Good afternoon, fans! Sometimes the simplest of maintenance tasks can make a big difference. That's why today's Monday Maintenance Tip is: Clean your engine.

Engine-bay-cleaning-2
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE There are several reasons to wash your engine at least every year or two. A clean engine will run cooler than a dirty one. You’ll be more apt to tackle routine belt and hose checks and the like if you know you won’t get covered with grime every time you do so.  A clean engine will also make it much easier to spot leaks. Remember to protect sensitive engine components — including the air intake, distributor, and electrical parts — with plastic bags before getting started. Use dishwashing liquid or other grease-cutting detergents and a bristle brush to scrub engine and components surfaces. Rinse thoroughly. Heavy-duty engine cleaning products are available at automotive parts stores. Follow the directions carefully. You may also want to have your engine professionally steam cleaned.

2013 Honda Accord, Civic, Fit and CR-V Receive ‘Best Resale Value' Honors from Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com

2013_honda_accord_ex_l_v_6_sedan004
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. received six Best Resale Value Awards from trusted vehicle valuation source Kelley Blue Book www.kbb.com. The all-new 2013 Honda Accord, the restyled 2013 Honda Civic and Civic Si, as well as the 2013 Honda Fit each earned awards in their respective segments for projected resale value after five years of ownership. Additionally, the 2013 Honda Civic and 2013 Honda CR-V were both honored as two of the overall Top 10 Best Resale Value vehicles in America this year.

2013 Honda Vehicles Honored with Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards

  • 2013 Honda Accord – Best Resale Value: Mid-Size Car
  • 2013 Honda Civic – Best Resale Value: Compact Car
  • 2013 Honda CR-V – Best Resale Value: Top 10
  • 2013 Honda Civic – Best Resale Value: Top 10
  • 2013 Honda Civic Si – Best Resale Value: Sporty Compact Car
  • 2013 Honda Fit – Best Resale Value: Subcompact Car

"Honda vehicles are engineered to provide a fun-to-drive experience as well as overall value for the money," said Michael Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations at American Honda. "With a continued focus on quality, fuel-efficiency and premium content, we have always believed that a Honda provides every buyer with added value, and we are honored to be recognized for our efforts by valuation leader Kelley Blue Book."

Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value Awards are based on projections from the Kelley Blue Book® Official Residual Value Guide, determined by a skilled staff of automotive analysts. These prestigious awards honor vehicles expected to maintain the greatest proportion of their original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) after five years of ownership. Since depreciation (or loss of value) is typically a car buyer's primary expense during ownership, these awards are designed to help consumers make more informed car-buying decisions.

"Honda's dominance in multiple car segments is evidenced by its class-leading wins in four segments," said Eric Ibara, director of residual consulting, Kelley Blue Book. "Based on our projections, no other car in the mid-size car segment can beat the 2013 Accord when it comes to resale value. 2013 Honda vehicles also took top honors in several very hotly contested segments, and they're not flukes. With many repeat winners and perennial favorites, the Honda brand continues to produce quality vehicles that return value to their owners, both during the ownership period and upon resale."

A very good Monday, to you all! It's time for us to check in with another Monday Maintenance Tip. Today's tip: Test drive-belt tension.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Belt
Check the tension and condition of your drive belt (or, with many cars, multiple belts) every month. Belts that are too tight can wear out the bearings in accessory components, such as AC compressor, water pump, and power-steering pump. Belts that are too loose will wear out faster and may fail prematurely. Perform your examination before you start the car to avoid injury due to a hot belt or moving engine part. Check for tension by pressing in the center of the belt’s longest exposed run while holding a ruler next to it. If you can depress the belt 1/ 2 to 1 inch (13 to 25 mm), but not more or less, the tension is good. If not, adjust the belt tension yourself according to your car’s service manual, or have your dealer or auto repair service do it. Also check for belt damage, such as glazing (often due to oil leakage), fraying, and cracks. If you spot damage, have the belt checked by a pro and replaced if necessary.

A very sincere thank you to the authors of these two outstanding reviews! We love to hear back from our customers!

Good afternoon everyone, just checking in with another Monday Maintenance tip for you. Today's tip: Don’t Forget the PCV Valve

Pcv-valve-replacing-a-pcv-valve_00
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve is an emissions control device on older cars — check your service manual to see if your car has one.  The valve recirculates partially burned gases from the engine’s crankcase to the combustion chamber. Important to a properly functioning engine, the valve should be changed every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or as specified in your owner’s manual. In addition to helping you get the most from a tank of gasoline, it helps to prevent the buildup of harmful sludge and corrosion.  When replacing your PCV valve, be sure you use the correct one or you may damage your engine.

Thank you, Milton S., for the excellent review! Keep up the great work, Alberto!

American Honda Highlights Performance and Personalization at 2012 SEMA Show

Accord_coupe_001

The Honda Factory Performance® (HFP®) package for the 2013 Accord Coupe makes its world debut today as part of the American Honda display at the 2012 SEMA Show. The all-new 2013 Accord Coupe and Sedan set a new standard for midsize car styling, efficiency and performance, and three modified Accords on display further highlight the personalized appearance and performance potential of the model.

Adjacent to the Honda display, Acura returns to the SEMA Show after a six-year absence on the strength of the all-new 2013 ILX luxury compact sedan, displaying two modified ILX vehicles and the striking Acura Supercar Concept vehicle featured in the blockbuster movie "The Avengers."

Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD) merits its own section of the display with championship vehicles including a replica of Dario Franchitti's 2012 Indianapolis 500-winning Indy car, the Muscle Milk® Racing 2012 American Le Mans Series P1 champion car and a B-spec Honda Fit race car that recently won its class at the 2012 SCCA Runoffs.

"Honda, Acura and HPD are on a roll this year, and the SEMA Show gives us a great opportunity to show off a bit," said Mike Accavitti, vice president of National Marketing Operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "With the new Honda Accord clearly excelling in all areas, the ILX opening new doors for Acura, and HPD building championship race cars left and right, it's clear that the magic is back."

The limited-edition HFP package for the 2013 Accord Coupe is set to go on sale in the spring of 2013 and includes: 19-inch HFP alloy wheels; decklid spoiler; HFP sport suspension (lowers height by 15mm and enhances handling); HFP front, side and rear underbody spoilers; red interior illumination; HFP floor mats and HFP badges for each side and the trunk. The HFP package, like all Honda Genuine Accessories, carries a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty when installed at the time of new vehicle purchase, and is engineered to be fully compatible with the vehicle. Enhancing its exclusive appeal, only 500 examples of this limited-edition HFP package will be sold for the 2013 Accord. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the package, not including installation, will be $4,650.

Also on display, a 2013 Accord Sedan featuring the X-Package and additional available Honda Genuine Accessories is designed to turn heads and accentuate the sedan's aerodynamic styling. The X-Package for the Accord Sedan is currently available for purchase nationwide at Honda dealers. The package includes front, side and rear underbody spoilers; a sport grille and a rear-wing spoiler with a MSRP of $2,171, excluding installation.

Reaching out to the enthusiast community, Honda invited two independent vehicle tuners to build and display their Accord concepts at the SEMA Show. Tuners were asked to push the limits of performance and style with their builds, and the vehicles on display demonstrate the personalized potential of the Accord Coupe and Sedan. After previously building amazing versions of the 2011 CR-Z and the 2012 Civic Si, Bisimoto Engineering returns with a 401 hp version of the Accord V6 Coupe in "Grand Touring" style. With three prior Honda project builds under their belts, including a 2007 Element, a 2009 Pilot and a 2011 CR-Z, DSO Eyewear / MAD Industries shows off their all-new Accord Sedan with upscale customization inside and out.

The HPD Supercharged CR-Z Concept rounds out the Honda section of the display with a further exploration of the performance potential of the CR-Z Sport Hybrid. Expanding on the CR-Z supercharged engine displayed at the 2011 SEMA Show, HPD made enhancements to improve acceleration, handling and stopping by adding a sport exhaust, developing a sport suspension, designing wheels with high performance tires and adding sport brakes.

The all-new 2013 Acura ILX luxury compact sedan offers a great chassis, dynamic engine choices, and sophisticated styling, perfect for the car enthusiast seeking compact fun and performance, with luxury and technology matching much larger vehicles. Honda R&D's Team Honda Research-West chose to highlight the performance potential of the car by building the 2013 Acura ILX Endurance Racer, on display, which will compete in NASA's grueling 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race later this year. Additionally on display, Evasive Motorsports created the 2013 Acura ILX Street Build project car, featuring an Acura Genuine Accessories aero kit and aftermarket supercharger among many modifications designed to provide a fun, daily drivable car that is tastefully done.

Wednesday Maintenance Tip: Online Tire-Buying

Tires1
Some people might assume that buying tires online and having them shipped to you is too expensive, time-consuming and cumbersome. So they continue to schlep down to the corner tire store, or buy from a chain store and wind up paying more than is necessary.

However, thanks to easy-to-navigate Web sites, consumers can provide their car's year, make and model and quickly be shown a wide selection of tires that fit their vehicle. The choices are easily sorted based on the driving requirements, prices or other factors. The tires are then "drop-shipped" to a local tire store for installation at an additional cost. Consumers we have talked with have been amazed at how smoothly the online tire-buying process works. In fact, one shopper called it, "One of my best online-shopping experiences."

Advantages of Online Tire-Buying

The Internet route offers the following advantages over the traditional tire-buying experience:

  • Online tire prices are lower, particularly when compared to inflated costs at dealerships.
  • Consumer reviews help buyers make informed decisions.
  • Buyers avoid aggressive "upselling" found in many brick-and-mortar stores.
  • Some online tire-buying Web sites, such as Tirerack.com offer their own independent tire tests.
  • There is no state sales tax on most Internet purchases (depending on the laws in your state).
  • One can find an excellent selection of hard-to-find performance and specialty tires.

Disadvantages of Online Tire-Buying

Purchasing tires over the Internet does have a few drawbacks. Here are a few things to know before proceeding:

  • The purchase requires advance planning and takes days.
  • Buyers can't inspect the actual tires before purchasing.
  • A trusted local installer still needs to be located.
  • Some buyers prefer the face-to-face interaction with an expert.
  • Shipping costs are high, particularly for overnight delivery.

Navigating Your Way to a Good Deal

The process starts with choosing the right tires for your needs. With some 160 different brands in the marketplace, the choice can be overwhelming. Many people are confused by what has been called sidewall graffiti, the hieroglyphic-like information about size, speed and load rating. In most cases, all you need to know is the year, make and model of your car. If you have put aftermarket wheels on the vehicle, you might need to know your wheel size before proceeding.

Nearly all online tire-buying sites allow you to view the list of tires using different sorting methods. If you have a brand preference, such as Michelin, you can sort the list so you can look at all those tires first. You can also cross-shop other brands by reading reviews from people who have bought these brands. While consumer reviews are important, it's also a good idea to read the opinions of experts who have a greater depth of comparative knowledge.

If you don't know a lot about tires, an easy way to make a decision is to look at the provided star ratings and the price range you have in mind to find the best intersection of these two factors. However, while most people like to save money, it's also important to make tire safety a priority.

Sorting Through Price

In tire stores you are likely to be quoted a per-tire price, so you have to do the math on the fly. On the Internet, the computer totals the cost of the four tires and gives you a better idea of whether this will fit into your budget. Keep in mind that while you are likely to be paying a hefty shipping price, you will probably not be charged sales tax by the company unless they have an office or warehouse in your state.

If you want to do a cost comparison to traditional tire-buying, keep these factors in mind:

  • Cost of the tires
  • Shipping cost
  • Savings from not paying sales tax, depending upon the merchant and where you live
  • Cost of installation
  • Disposal fees and excise taxes

Getting Your Tires Mounted and Balanced

In addition to the tire cost, you will also have to pay to have the tires mounted and balanced. Tirerack.com has a list of local installers arranged by ZIP code, so when you order you can have the tires shipped directly to the store. When the tires arrive, the installer calls you to bring the car down to have the job completed.

It's a good idea to read reviews of the installer ahead of time, and call and confirm the price for the work you need done. You will have to buy valve stems from the installer, have the tires mounted and balanced and have the old tires disposed of. The cost for all this ranges from $15 to $20 per tire depending on tire size and type.

Give the Online Route a Try

If you can save $15 per tire, that's a total savings of $60, not to mention you'll avoid some of the pricy extras many chain tire stores push on unwary customers. So give this new shopping experience a test-drive next time the tread is wearing thin on your tires. Like many other consumers, you might be so satisfied you'll never go back to the old way of doing things.

Head Turner

The 2013 Accord Touring Sedan features Honda’s first use of light-emitting diode (LED) headlights. The dual-lamp LED projector array provides improved light distribution for improved visibility and enhanced nighttime driving performance. But wait, there’s more: LEDs require only one-half the electrical power of conventional halogen/projector headlights. That sounds good. But maybe even better is the way the lights look when the Accord Touring Sedan rolls by after dark. Oh yeah – that’s an Accord!

Check out the all new 2013 Honda Accord Touring Edition

2013_honda_accord
This week, we're behind Honda's all-new generation 2013 Accord, delivered in Touring Edition dress which happens to be the most expensive Accord available.

Accord enthusiasts, who have waited eagerly for the all-new new model, have been rewarded for their patience. Explicitly, the new Accord is perhaps one of the best cars Honda has ever built, featuring a sleek new design that is sporty yet classical and re-defines the amount of luxury a car builder can put into a vehicle that starts at just $21,680.

Arriving on our shores in 1976 as a 2-door 68-horsepower 2,000 lb. compact, Accord quickly became a Honda best seller in the compact and mid-size class. Today's Accord, which is built in Marysville, Ohio, and was the very first foreign car built in America, has grown in dimensions (3,500 lbs.) and horsepower (278), along with a bevy of standard features many higher priced luxury cars charge extra for.

Competing in the popular mid-size Camry, Taurus, Malibu, Sonata, Avenger and Altima class ... which just happens to be the most sought after "best selling" category in automobile manufacturing ... Accord is a staunch opponent and ready to knock Camry off its list as the number one seller.

Our Accord Touring tester features no options whatsoever, as the top line model comes fully loaded. It features a unique high-tech Honda "Lane Watch," which activates a camera on the passenger side that allows the driver to see what is going on from front to rear on the passenger side. "Lane Watch" helps when re-entering the right lane after passing and also assists in parallel parking. When stopped for a red-light, the system sees small children or dogs and a host of other happenings. Your Honda dealer will gladly explain both standard and optional high tech features, which are many.

At this point, everyone's perhaps thinking that the aforementioned base LX Accord doesn't feature much at just $21,680.

Think again, sans the "Lane Watch" which is available on the EX series ($24,605) or higher.

For $21,680 Accord LX comes standard with a 185-hp 2.4-Liter four-cylinder, vehicle stability assist, 4-wheel disc ABS, traction control, 6-speed manual transmission (automatic CVT transmission is $800 more), Eco assist system, hill start assist, 16-inch alloy wheels, security system with remote entry, chrome door handles, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, SMS Text Message, steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio, phone and i-MID Controls, Pandora internet radio, all the airbags, USB audio interface, MP3, eight-inch 480x320 resolution display screen with rearview safety camera and chrome exhaust tips. Fuel mileage is 27 city and 36 highway with the CVT transmission, which I recommend over the 6-speed manual, which delivers 24 and 34 MPG, respectively.

Consumers can then move up the Accord ladder to Sport, EX, EX-L, EX-L V6 and top line Touring V6, the latter loaded with numerous luxury amenities and a powerful V-6 under the hood. There is also a two-door coupe for the younger set, which is equally impressive.

Speaking of the V6, get ready for some real Honda horsepower and good fuel mileage, too. The 278 horsepower feels more like 350 for whatever reason, and the non-CVT six-speed automatic is properly geared for both performance and economy.

On the highway, Accord Touring is poised and ready for any merge or curve you throw at it thanks to a front strut and rear multi-link independent suspension. You'll enjoy secure handling and a ride that is quiet and refined with room for five adults.

Important numbers include a wheelbase of 109.3 inches, 3,559 lb. curb weight, 15.8 cu. ft. of cargo space and a 17.2 gallon fuel tank.

There's little not like about Honda's all new Accord, and you owe it to yourself to see and drive on if you are shopping this market. You won't be disappointed.

Worldwide Sales of Honda Hybrid Vehicles Reach One Million Units

2012-honda-civic-hybrid-rear-three-quarter-623x389
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that cumulative worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles surpassed one million units as of the end of September 2012. This milestone was reached 12 years and 11 months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan on November 1999, which achieved a fuel economy rating of 35km/liter1, then rated as the world's most fuel efficient vehicle among all mass-production gasoline-powered vehicles.

Honda began hybrid vehicle sales in U.S. in 1999 with the 2000 Honda Insight – the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle sold in America. Cumulative sales of Honda hybrid vehicles in the U.S. market have now reached over 318,000 units, predominately sales of the Insight and Civic Hybrid.

Capitalizing on the unique features of Honda's original lightweight and compact IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid system, Honda has been enhancing its hybrid vehicle lineup and currently sells eight hybrid models in approximately 50 countries around the world, including four distinct models in the U.S.

In May 2012, Honda began to produce hybrid models in regions outside of Japan starting with the Acura ILX Hybrid2 in the U.S., followed by production of the Jazz (Fit) Hybrid in Thailand. Honda will also begin production of the Jazz Hybrid in Malaysia at the end of October in an effort to deliver hybrid vehicles with speed, affordability and low CO2 emissions for customers in Asia where demand for fuel-efficient vehicles is expected to grow in the future.

In addition to further advancing the current hybrid model offerings equipped with the one-motor IMA hybrid system, Honda is introducing new hybrid systems for mid-size models that will be equipped with a two-motor hybrid system. Additionally, a highly-efficient and high-output three-motor hybrid system, the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All Wheel Drive), offering both superior dynamic handling and fuel efficiency, will be applied to the Acura NSX and RLX Sport Hybrid model, as well as the successor model of the Legend, scheduled to be introduced in Japan.

Under the global environmental slogan of "Blue Skies for Our Children," Honda will continue its efforts to further market penetration of hybrid vehicles to realize a low carbon society.

Keith was very knowledgeable, friendly and genuinely interested in helping us choose the right car. He patiently spent quite a bit of time with us showing available cars, reviewing Carfax reports to shortlist the right vehicles based on our criteria and helping us make the right choice. Based on our trust & confidence in Keith, we ended up buying both our used cars at White Plains Honda. Thanks Keith & the dealership team (Joe & Juan) for the service & positive experience. Everything You Want. And Less.

Si_lx_34front
The new Accord has more standard features than ever before, although Honda engineers did cut back on one thing: weight.

Weight is the enemy of automotive performance. Every pound of vehicle mass has to be accelerated up to speed by the engine, herded around every corner by the tires and steering, and eased over every bump by the suspension. And when it’s time to stop, the brakes have to work that much harder to drag it back to a stop.

Honda engineers had their work cut out for them when they set out to design the new ninth-generation Accord. On one hand, it needed to hit the highest internal targets ever for fuel efficiency and overall performance. That meant it had to be light. On the other hand, to compete in its market segment, the new Accord needed to have a quieter, more comfortable interior, raise the bar in terms of safety engineering and have more standard features than ever before. All that stuff means extra weight.

So after years of development, how did the Honda engineers do? Even though it has a far more quiet and refined interior and has gained standard features like an “intelligent” Multi-Information Display (i-MID), standard Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, Eco Assist™, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera and much more, the new Accord actually weighs 24 pounds less than the previous-generation Accord.

Nice work, guys.

Care For Anti-Lock Brakes

  • An anti-lock brake system is sensitive to moisture, which can ruin the expensive ABS pump and rot the brake lines from the inside. Since brake fluid attracts moisture, it should be “bled” or purged at least every three years, or as specified in your owner’s manual.

Thank you Elvin, for this tremendous review! Keep up the great work team!

White Plains Honda - (5) Star Review on Yelp

  • I gave it five stars because my experience at the White Plains Honda was a very good one. I went in  just to look at the new 2013 Honda and got out owning one. From the service department to the sales associates this place is honest and competitive when comes to prices. Offer after offer was made until we agreed and settled for one. General manager was understanding and cooperative in regard to my issues.
The sales associate at White Plains Honda was Marsel Paloka with his honesty and dedication in finding me the best deal we were able to finalize one.
