Honda reveals next generation CR-V

As business for Honda Motor Co. returns to normal, the news can turn back to future products, starting with the first look at the next generation of a model increasingly important to Honda, the CR-V.

Honda (NYSE:HMC) released the first image of its next generation CR-V Monday. The East Liberty-built vehicle is the top seller in its small sport-utility segment with 203,714 vehicles sold in the U.S. last year. The redesign is expected to hit showrooms before the end of the year.

In addition to exterior design improvements, Honda said the engine will be more fuel-efficient, its body weight has been reduced and the interior will be more spacious.

"The all-new CR-V will offer an added dimension of style, amazing interior versatility and Honda's latest technologies for convenience and refinement," John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co. , the automaker's U.S. sales arm, said in a release.

The concept version of the vehicle will make its debut at the Orange County International Auto Show in California in September.

The CR-V not only leads its segment, but has become a greater part of Honda's sales mix in recent years. The relaunch comes at a key point for the automaker as short supplies have hindered sales since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, but competitors such as General Motors, Toyota Motor Co. and Ford Motor Co., have been taking greater aim at the small SUV segment.

Central Ohio is the hub of Honda’s North American operations. The company employs more than 13,500 workers in Ohio, including its assembly plants in Marysville and East Liberty. In the greater Dayton region, its operations include 2,400 workers at its Anna engine plant, 1,050 workers at its Logan County transmission plant and 225 employees at a consolidation facility in Troy.

Workers in Marysville and East Liberty assemble the Honda Accord, Crosstour and CR-V and the Acura TL sedan and RDX sport-utility vehicle.

"Last week I purchased a used Honda Civic at 316 Central Park Avenue in White Plains and the only question I’m asking myself is why didn’t I do this much sooner. For starters, I did what was protocol for used car buyers. I did my research, decided on a Honda and went out looking. One of the most important items on my must have list was buying a barely used car. I visited the Honda dealership closest to my home and totally dodged a bullet by not buying there. The salesperson tried to sell me a car that had been in an accident. I only realized that when he finally furnished the carfax after begging and pleading for it as they proceeded with washing the new car and preparing it for me. All, before I even agreed on a final price. They even started to remove the tags off of my trade-in before the deal was even finalized. I left there feeling manipulated and discouraged. The next day, I set out with much caution on a mission to purchase my new car. I remembered that there was a Honda dealership in White Plains; so I immediately went there and as soon as I entered the lot, salesperson Zeeshan Majid greeted me with a warm smile and a calm demeanor. British Open champ commits to 2012 Honda Classic

Darren Clarke, who won the British Open Sunday, has committed to the 2012 Honda Classic, giving the Palm Beach Gardens event early commitments from the last two major championship winners.

Clarke joins fellow Northern Irelander and U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy in requesting and being granted an exemption into The Honda. Lee Westwood, currently the No. 2 player in the World Golf Rankings, also has committed early to the 2012 Honda, which will be played February 27-March 4 at PGA National Resort & Spa.

"We are absolutely ecstatic at the endorsement The Honda Classic is receiving from the top International players in the World," Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly said. "Darren's victory at The British Open coupled with Rory's victory at Congressional are two wonderful stories for the world of golf. We are thrilled that the golf fans of South Florida will be able to come out to PGA National next March and watch them play in The Honda Classic."

Clarke hadn't contended in a major in the past 10 years before his masterful performance at Royal St. George's. He wasn't even eligible for the previous three majors and had fallen out of the top 100 in the World Rankings.

"I'm a bit of a normal bloke, aren't I?" Clarke said. "I like to go to the pub and have a pint, fly home, buy everybody a drink, just normal. There's not many airs and graces about me. I was a little bit more difficult to deal with in my earlier years, and I've mellowed some. Just a little bit. But I'm just a normal guy playing golf, having a bit of fun.

"Pretty amazing right now. It's been a dream since I've been a kid to win the Open."

Clarke fought off brief rallies from Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson and then cruised to a three-stroke victory despite meaningless bogeys on the last two holes.

Ironically, it was the younger McIlroy, who fought off the psychological pains of a collapse at The Masters to win the U.S. Open, who reached out to Clarke with advice on winning a first major before Sunday's final round.

"He told me to be patient and keep doing what you're doing, keep playing the way you're playing,' " Clarke said."He was sort of telling me the same things I said back to him. As opposed to me being the old wise one and he was trying to give me all the information. So it was different."

Clarke holed a 12-foot par putt on the first hole, a downhill 8-footer for par on the third, and a 20-footer for eagle on the seventh to keep relative pace with Mickelson, who had tied him with a scorching front nine.

"Northern Ireland...... Golf capital of the world!!" McIlroy tweeted as Clarke played the last hole. When Graeme McDowell's 2010 U.S. Open victory is factored in, three of the last six majors have been won by Northern Irelanders.

Their assault on the golf world will continue at the 2012 Honda Classic.

On May 28, 2011, I walked into WPH, with no intention of buying a car. I was “just looking”. I walked out that same day, the owner of a 2009 Accord. Zeeshan had said to me “what do I need to do to have you walk out with that car today?” Now, I am the type of person who thinks about all the possible permutations of a purchase. I like to shop around, compare features, review government crash tests, calculate the cost of ownership, etc. I am not one to make a major purchase on instinct alone. However, Zeeshan made me feel comfortable about the car I was test driving. He did not play around. He took me to the best car on the lot based on what I was looking for. The first car he showed me was the one I eventually bought. The entire process was great. There was no “high pressure sales” (which I hate) just simple information and encouragement. I am very happy with my purchase and having worked with Zeeshan.

There is also Mr. Hamid Anwar. Mr. Anwar is a dignified gentleman. He is very “stately” and I can easily imagine him as the head of state or president of a country. He took care of the financing and had a very reassuring presence. The Sales Manager, Mr. Jerzy Czaczkowski is also great to work with. He has a engaging personality, makes you feel “at home” and is great with customer service. In fact, I found a slight defect in the body work after purchasing the car. It was easy to miss as the car was generally in pristine condition. I brought the car in the next day and Mr. Czaczkowski said he would take care of it....no problem. And guess what? They took care of it...no problem.

Good sales people are hard to find, so don’t waste your time, simply make a “B-line” to White Plains Certified Used Honda. Ask for Zeeshan, tell him Robert sent you and Zeeshan will take care of the rest!

2012 Honda Civic Si Takes On New Role As IZOD IndyCar Series Safety Car

The all-new, ninth-generation 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe will take on new duties as a Safety Car for the IZOD IndyCar Series, beginning on the weekend of the Honda Indy Toronto, July 8-10.

Already a hit with race fans through the Civic Racing Style Sweepstakes, the 201-horsepower Honda Civic Si Coupe was recently transformed by Honda Performance Development (HPD), Honda's racing subsidiary north of Los Angeles, into an official IZOD IndyCar Series Safety Car.

Modifications to the already high-performance stock Civic Si include Sparco seats and four-point racing harnesses; an HPD high-performance brake system, with four-piston calipers, competition rotors, racing pads, and stainless brake lines; a Honda Genuine Accessory aerodynamic body kit, consisting of front, side and rear under spoilers; and Firestone Firehawk 225/40 R18 tires mounted on Enkei alloy wheels.

An exclusive graphics theme completes the conversion from a showroom Civic Si Coupe to an IZOD IndyCar Series Safety Car. The Safety Car will be driven during IZOD IndyCar Series events by three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Johnny Rutherford.
